But even then, I did have some guys in Engineering, Deck and Supply that asked me to be their mentor. In that role, I helped many of them achieve their career goals, including citizenship. Most of these guys, from Somalia, Kenya, Vietnam, Philippines and elsewhere, were more patriotic than many conservatives I know. They were exactly the kind of people we want to become Americans.
