GOP strained by Trump-influenced shift from Reagan on Russia
The Hill ^ | 02/29/2024 | MIKE LILLIS

It’s not Ronald Reagan’s GOP anymore.

The Republican Party’s shift from Russia hawk to something softer is straining the GOP at a crucial juncture, highlighting the ascendency of former President Trump’s “America First” approach and exasperating old-guard conservatives who long for a return to the assertive foreign policy championed by the party through generations prior.

It’s created nothing short of an identity crisis for those Republicans who still identify with the party of former President Reagan, a Cold War president long lionized within the GOP ranks for his aggressive confrontations with the Soviet Union.

“Ronald Reagan would not recognize today’s GOP,” said John Conway, head of strategy for Republicans for Ukraine, a group pressing GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill to provide more military aid to Kyiv.

Ronald Reagan would have never let this bullshit happen. Total lies.

Next the propagandists will try to tell us that Ronald Reagan was a poofter.

Reagan NEVER had to deal with Russia. When Reagan was alive NATO had a very real and important job, to protect us from the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. Both of those entities are deader than Reagan is.

They’ve made Reagan into a Gumby that they can bend and twist into any shape they want. Like Trump, Reagan was very reluctant to launch wars. Like Reagan, Trump was despised by the establishment. Trump was saddled with GOPE, Mike Pence, Reagan was saddled with GOPE George Bush.

What B.S. Reagan was a “hawk” on the Soviet Union. But he also favored peace, and he used his position of strength to gain that peace.

It is not the 1980s, and the Soviet Union collapsed. Reagan was the right man for the time, imho.

"Reagan was saddled with GOPE George Bush"

Who did as much as he could to dismantle Reagan's legacy.

And at the end of his presidency, he was walking in red square with Gorbachev, and he said he no longer believed he was in an evil empire. Reagan with a lot of created this war like we did in Ukraine. And Reagan wouldn’t have approved of the Ukrainian Nazi government.

Russia, Soviet Union, 2 sides of the same same evil coin

That’s why Reagan said “Trust but verify” ... he didn’t trust the lying bastards either

(Waiting for the Putin Groupies to accuse Reagan of being a Neocon Globohomo Warmonger because he wanted to keep NATO strong ...)

Would he have locked down the country for Covid? Banned bumpstocks? Offered amnesty for a wall.. o wait.
He did give big pharma immunity for anything on the childhood vax, as long as they had a surveillance system. Not a single report required for the vax deal has been completed,

GOP strained by Trump-influenced shift...

The Part of the GOP that survives as American will be the American Republicans that President Trump brings aboard.

The GloboHomo "Republicans" and The GOPe are Dead to America.

They'll have to get jobs in Ukraine.

Well, it appears you’ve let your secret out of the bag. Using your line of reasoning, it appears you must be a National Socialist. Why else would you support our current alliance with the Third Reich?

Very true. Whether Brezhnev, Andropov, or Gorbachev the USSR in Reagan’s time had a Politburo that prevented one man rule. Present day Russia has no such ability to restrict the moves of Putin.

Other than in parts of Southeast Asia, Northern Africa and South and Central America-communism was dead.

The arms race is in part what enables myself to point out Russia is a gas station with a $2trillion economy.

I get the confusion!

Reagan would never turn his back on Americans.
This all began when the Bush Family took control of the GOP
