If anyone wonders why Republicans will probably lose the WH, the Senate, and the House in the coming years, look no further than INSANE stuff like this. All Republicans have to do is be normal, and we can't. Dems will use this to scare independents and women to vote for them in droves. As someone whose wife is currently going through IVF, this ruling is absolute lunacy. This issue is why there was no "red wave" in 2022 and it will rear its ugly head in 2024. Great job, everyone!

The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that frozen embryos can be considered children under state law [...]

So, I'm thinking... dependents / income tax deductions?

All 257 of 'em?

Regards,

Pissing off women who want to have children but can’t is a really, really dumb move for the GOP. These women are a motivated group of people.

IVF should be done in another country anyhow.

You can take an airplane, start the process, spend a couple of weeks traveling, finish the treatment, then fly back home for about a tenth of what just the treatment costs in the United States.

Our healthcare costs really are that insanely expensive.

How freezing embryos is legal in the first place is what I can’t figure out.

Bingo!

As if the Dobbs decision weren’t enough, rulings like this keep abortion/choice front and center for the much disparaged but critically important suburban women’s vote.

People can have different takes on exclusions for rape, on cut-offs at 4 months, or on a number of nuanced other issues, but a lot of women know other women who have benefited from IVF. This ruling is an albatross to the party.

Well, if embryos are children, then abortion is murder, right? Will they now start prosecuting doctors, etc.?

This will have ramifications far beyond IVF.

This is why the Republicans, I’d they want to win, will make these type of issues be non-federal and kept at the state/local level. Failure to do this ensures that the Dems will win and force all 50 States to be exactly what social conservatives fear that their local State could become on all these types of issues while ensuring that Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden clones are making all the laws from top to borrom across the US. It really is this simple and it’s shocking how pig headed people are when they deny this political reality.

The next logical step is prosecuting any male who masturbates or female who uses any kind of birth control.

Maybe the official Republican anthem should be “Every Sperm Is Sacred”.
