I bet Hazard is a nice little town and very peaceful place to live
Then those duke boys showed up...
What great story, thank you for posting.
Not mentioned in the article, but goid Bible-based churches and missions are needed there. They won’t turn around without God.

When are people going to realize these people hate you?
True, an uplifting story, and I wish them all the best, but I can’t help wondering what the underlying source of money for the area is now, as coal mining once was. People can’t prosper indefinitely by taking in one another’s washing.
Where does the money come from to support this revival? I assume the ex-addicts have more money to spend on other things, but an economy can’t thrive on people just selling stuff to each other. Somebody has to be making something.
And why are the people responsible for this overwhelming walking around free?
mentioned in the article...
In the little evangelical churches, they prayed for an end to “hillbilly heroin.”
It appears that people are moving back to these small towns, thereby providing a base for businesses to come in. After covid people started re-thinking living in big cities.

In the meantime Fentanyl is being cheaply produced out of the country in places like Red China and Fentanyl flows through our borders unabated just like illegal invaders.
I’d like to feel good about this story.
But here in the Biblebelt not all that far from Kentucky, the overdoses and deaths from opioids are not well publicized thanks to Elite Stream media which is averse to telling truths.
There are many stories in the media about the spreading availability of Narcan.
Synthetic opioids have never been cheaper nor have they ever been deadlier.
Drug overdose deaths are up 30% year-over-year.

The war on drugs has been a disaster. Prescription opioids have dropped by well over 60% from their peak while opioid related deaths are at record levels.
Those using opioids whether for legitimate medical or non medical purposes are now using unsafe unregulated substances resulting in more overdose deaths.

Beautiful area but those hollers are a tough place to live.

I like the sign on the bar (in one of the later pictures in the article):
“Helen Waite is our bookkeeper. If you need credit, go to Helen Waite.” :P
