Companies spend a fortune on those things and on phone robots. Not one of them has ever given me anything the least bit useful.

Yeah, about a week or so ago I was directed by a company’s website to use their on line customer help. It went almost like that. Asked if I could talk to a human and was told that it could help me, why did I want to talk to a human? Almost like I had hurt it electronic feelings. Ended up calling their help line the next day and, after 97 minutes in the queue, got a human who solved my problem in under a minute.

The hucksters call it "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) but it's just programming. This scenario is just one example why AI will have limited application for companies - the company's lawyers will shut down a program that can expose the company to liability.
It's difficult enough to get the legal department to sign off on customer-facing websites, adding in risky programming is a big no-no.

Well it’s rare that I agree with Canada much these days but on the face of it I have to agree. If a company uses an AI chatbot for customer service, they need to train it to deliver the correct responses and not blame some other AI bot or AI company.

"...Air Canada denied all of Moffatt’s claims and said it couldn’t be held liable for information provided by its servants, agents, representatives, or chatbots..." So, I'm not required to listen to the stewardess when he/she/it tells me to return to my seat for landing?
