Bipartisan House group floats $66B national security bill — to help border and Ukraine

House lawmakers on Friday floated a new bipartisan national security bill that would beef up security at the problematic US-Mexico border and provide much-needed aid to Ukraine.

The “Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act” would restore the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy for one year, while also allowing border enforcement authorities to detain and immediately expel illegal aliens who don’t meet the threshold for asylum claims.

The “Remain in Mexico” policy requires most migrants who reach the southern border — usually after leaving Central America or the Caribbean — to remain in Mexico while US courts review their asylum claims. However, the policy does require cooperation from the Mexican government.

“Congress must secure our border,” said Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), a co-sponsor on the bill.

“Restoring the Remain in Mexico policy would address SCOTUS’s ruling that this authority is discretionary.”

With chronic budget deficits year after year, running into Trillions, where is the money for Ukraine coming from? Pad ugly yuge national debt and rob the future generations?

Attach HB.2 to the Ukraine/Taiwan/Israel funding bill. Anything less than HB.2 is unacceptable.

What a pile of garbage.

“Congress must secure our border,” said Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), a co-sponsor on the bill. Must be an election year for a Demonrat to say such a thing.

"...restore the Trump administration’s 'Remain in Mexico' policy for ONE YEAR"

Republicans, don't get rolled. Make it PERMANENT and we can start to talk.

Better yet, Republicans, get serious and pause ALL immigration for 25 years. Enough is enough.

How bout $330M for Don Trump?

He’s an actual American in need.

We all know Big Z will carve off at least that for himself. Gotta get the latest villa in Monaco!

How do we know that “money to secure our borders” will be spent to secure our borders? Biden could use the money to funnel more people into the US.

They can appropriate all the money they want. Biden will not secure the borders.

The regime in power has intentionally not enforced border laws. Passing new requirements means nothing - those will simply be ignored.

Rats will not allow this, but when dealing with a lawless regime, one must pass independently gathered metrics and tie funding to achieving results. For example, deport 2 million illegals in the next 12 months. Reduce new illegals crossing into the US to less than 100k during the next 12 months. If not achieved, discretionary spending is reduced 50%. Year 2, deport another 2 million illegals and new illegals crossing into the US to less than 50k otherwise discretionary spending is reduced 75%. Repeat until all illegals are gone and the border is locked down tight.

Why pass new laws when existing laws aren’t followed? Seems to me to be a waste of time. First, obey existing law and then adjust as needed.

Lather, rinse, repeat...

“Congress must secure our border,” said Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), a co-sponsor on the bill. “

The open border is a Biden Admin POLICY. No amount of new laws, additional monies, additional manpower will change the policy. Congress cannot secure the border against a lawless Administration. PERIOD.
