Morris: New York City Tries ‘Remote-Learning Snow Day,’ Fails, and Ruins Childhood Rite of Passage

“Disappointed, frustrated and angry.”

That is how New York City’s Public Schools chancellor David Banks described how he felt after the “remote-learning test” the bureaucrats decided they would impose on children in place of giving them a snow day off on Tuesday.

“Disappointed, frustrated and angry,” is surely how millions of public school children felt too, when they were informed they would be “remote-learning,” instead of going to the park to build snowmen when they saw the forecast.

Lady at the gym I go to teaches second grade. She despises remote learning. Kids either don't log in, give her attitude when they do log in, or TV is blasting or something going on in the back ground.

Schools get paid based on attendance. I wonder what happens to their state income when over half the kids don’t show up for “remote learning day.”

Their chancellor feels ‘disappointed, frustrated and angry’.

“Their chancellor feels ‘disappointed”

They call their public school’s top guy a “chancellor”, huh?

Are their teachers called “professors” yet?

Just give up. It’s a fool’s errand to try and educate New Yorkers.

Biggest snow storm I remember where I grew up was 8 foot over night. We didn’t get a snow day, dangit... But luckily it was only up hill one way.

Cleared driveways and walkways on snow days. Used to make $50/day. (60’s) I was rich!

I hope the kids were out sledding, throwing snowballs, building snow forts, and then going inside for hot chocolate and some Brady Bunch/Partridge Family reruns (Ok, I date myself there).

Anything but school when there is fresh snow outside to cavort and play in with similar minded-children (and some playful adults).

"Remote learning" SUCKS!

Either get the kids in a classroom or let them play.

That's what I say.
