What the bill really did was that 5000 illegal immigrants/day can come into the US. How long before that number jumped to 10,0000, 20,000...heck 35,000? Moreover, who is in charge of counting. Not anyone that I trust.
Here’s what most common sense people want: No illegal immigration. If you are here illegally, you get deported. Period.
Now, there are several ways to get into this country legally...which is fine. Should we increase numbers, move around this formula or that formula? Perhaps...that is something that will always be up for debate. Should we have a guest worker program. Probably. Also, up for congress to discuss.
But, one can never be here illegally...without status. Until we see that sort of thing take shape, the government will never get our support. If the government wants to earn our trust back, they would simply stop illegal immigration in its track. Once we see that for a year or so, then we can talk about real immigration laws.
