Discussion didn’t sound like it is going to be a 9-0 decision.
Discussion was civil, unlike cable debates where everybody shouts until the commercial break (and make dinner plans with the other kabuki players.)
After 10 minutes of listening, I am convinced we need a Major National Campaign to REPEAL the 19th Amendment.
Trump’s attorney is getting rolled by the liberals. They keep pushing him to a progressively more narrower argument. Alito has been trying to help him take his blinders off, but he refused. Threading through ancient precedents seldom persuades the Supreme Court when they are dealing with pressing issues.
Whoever is bringing this case before the SCOTUS is going to look and sound pretty stupid....
Should be 9-0
I have been listening for about thirty minutes, and have yet to hear Trump’s lawyer remind the court that Trump has not been, in a court of law, convicted of insurrection.
Until then, the whole bunch of arguments are merely academic.
Unless I missed it, Trump’s attorney did not bring up a due process argument. Colorado’s SC has just declared that Trump is guilty of insurrection, without trial or any legitimate process. Trump, as a US citizen has the right to be charged, tried, to present a defense, etc. Colorado’s action is clearly unconstitutional and must be overturned. Otherwise, turn out the lights, the US experiment is over.
Trump’s lawyer was OUTSTANDING.
WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roberts in for the kill.
Dang, the lawyer against Trump just said he believes a state could take a candidate the state doesn’t like, off the ballot, three days before the election.
So why hasn’t a conviction been addressed?
Been listening while driving my son to school. Very interesting. Sounds like all of the justics are skeptical.
If the charges are NOT DEFLECTED and Trump is considered "GUILTY" and removed from specific State's ballots then you have witnessed another "Pontius Pilate-Jesus Christ" encounter!
It’s at least 8-1. Sotomayor is the only question mark based on the questioning so far. KBJ just went in for the kill too.
Time for Roberts to earn his deep state money.
btt
The case is submitted.
Turley calls reception to Colo argument “glacial.” !!
America finds itself at a crossroads. We were given a Constitution, written in plain English, that set limits on Federal power. Since human nature never changes, the three “equal” branches of government are always jockeying for the rail. I consider Congress the villain in all this as they have abandoned their responsibilities to the Executive and Judicial Branches while they are only primarily interested in growing government (increasing their power) and spending money to enrich themselves and their supporters. The Executive branch has stepped into the vacuum by de facto creation of laws via Executive Order (unconstitutional) and growing its branch. The Judicial Branch which was set up to interpret the Constitution AS WRITTEN, and act as a break on the other 2 Branches has also fallen victim to its own hubris by creating laws from the bench and ruling to a certain extent by Judicial decree. I believe there are still good people in the 3 branches, but they are neither strong enough or numerous enough to stop what’s coming. Pray for our Republic.
