A union leader that recognizes reality. Union members are not necessarily driven by the same impulses that the leadership of that union feel are categorical imperatives, as most of them are not particularly ideological. Just either as persons displaced from other lines of work, or country boys come in from Tennessee, with a different work ethic than youth raised on city streets and used to the hustle from an early age.

It goes beyond that.

The UAW is one of those retarded labor unions that allows retirees to vote in their leadership elections. That’s one of the worst scenarios you can face as an active working member of a union.

With something like 200,000 more retirees than active working members, the UAW is always going to sell out the active workers for the benefit of the retirees on any given political issue or labor agreement provision.
