The US arm of AP Moller-Maersk is suspending voyages through the Red Sea after two of its container ships came under missile attack while being escorted by the US Navy.
The 6,200-teu Maersk Detroit and 2,474-teu Maersk Chesapeake (both built 2008) turned around in the Red Sea and were escorted back to the Gulf of Aden, said the company.
The master of an unidentified ship reported an explosion 100 metres from its starboard side, the UK Maritime Trade Operations said earlier.
US Central Command, which coordinates the country’s military operations in the region, said three anti-ship ballistic missiles were fired toward the Maersk Detroit.
One missile hit the sea, while the warship USS Gravely shot down two others.
The two ships were carrying cargo and aid for the US government and were given protection by the navy for the passage through the Bab El-Mandeb strait, said subsidiary Maersk Line Ltd, for which the US military is a major customer on its US-flag ships.
“While en route, both ships reported seeing explosions close by and the US Navy accompaniment also intercepted multiple projectiles,” the company said.

Not a very good showing for the NAVY .
Our navy sucks. A couple of AC-130s could take out the houthis shooting the missiles and then sell the videos and reduce the national debt.
If you see what is happening with Ukraine versus Russia war, you’ll see that Navies are on the way out. Soon no ship will be safe.

I am inclined to dismiss the supposed prophetic vision of George Washington as a patriotic fable invented for publication in 1859. Yet I am forced to wonder if the invasion of the US that it predicted is not in fact now happening.

This just demonstrates that the US is unable to keep the shipping lanes open and makes us look impotent. How much money are we wasting on deploying this Naval task force anyway?
A few weeks ago they said the international community had already retreated from some shipments being sent on the ships as a reaction to possible danger of being hit by missiles. This made a certain percentage (maybe it was 25-30%—can’t remember) reduction and this would lead to shortages and price increases to consumers.
So retreat is part of the plan.
Well, if they attack on a weekend in Chicago, we may not be aware of it.
I had mixed feelings about that vision but I now agree it is the real deal.
I think we’re going to see many Americans going to the border and taking care of business. That will be a huge development.
