I doubt it. I think Valerii Zaluzhnyi knew the counteroffensive will fail but he had to appease Zelensky and the Americans.

So the Ukes launched probing attacks and went in with the Western tanks.

You didn't see a big attack like the D-Day Invasion. Zaluzhnyi knew it was impossible. So his goal is to preserve his army in one piece and survive to fight tomorrow. Much like George Washington.
