Actually the analogy is between the people in eastern Ukraine and the colonists that were being oppressed by the British.

Those in Crimea and Donbass were under NO obligation to be persecuted or murdered by a government of Ukrainian nationalists and neo-Nazis that hated them.

Nor was Russia under any obligation to let us foment an illegal coup on its borders and build up a military force that was threat to their national security. We sure as hell wouldn't tolerate that in Mexico.
