Discord, the popular messaging and video calling platform, has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, laying off 17 percent of its staff in a strategic move to streamline operations.
The Verge reports Discord has joined the ranks of a number of other tech firms in 2024, laying off a significant amount of its workforce. The company recently announced it plans to lay off 17 percent of its workforce, which is equivalent to around 170 employees.

Discord is popular with gamers and some right/conservatives who’ve been kicked off the other social media platforms.
It’s relatively free of censorship and moderation is left to the owners of the various sites within Discord.
A little surprising to me as my wife just this morning was pointing out how Discord had gone from a gamers communication tool our kids use to a platform several organizations she is a part of is using.

Well, at least the people being laid off cannot claim they were surprised, given the name of the company they worked for.
