Yes, Swedish liberals and CINO’s (Conservatives in Name Only) accepted many refugees, without thoroughly vetting them before letting them in. THAT was a mistake.
Vetting is ESSENTIAL. There was no illegal immigration though.
Probably about 10 - 20 % of those islamic refugees are criminals. They are now wreaking havoc in Sweden.
However! The new conservative / “far-right” Government in Sweden is pro-actively trying to reverse the mess the liberals caused.
The Sweden Democrat party (now participating in the Government) is considered by the liberal media as being an extremist “far-right party”. This true right-party is the most anti-russia of them all. They strongly pushed for Sweden’s entry into NATO.
Only the the ultra-left party (old communist party) in Sweden want to give Russia a pass, and they are also against NATO.

If NATO members are so god awful subservient then how come all U.S. Presidents since Reagan have complained that Europe’s NATO members fall behind in the military contributions to NATO? There are other areas of NATO policies and operations that have annually and persistently seen the U.S. takng positions NOT unanimously followed by NATO members in Europe. The answer is obvious - the other NATO members are NOT slaves to the U.S.

I think the geopolitical geomilitary position is now at a place where we will have leverage reforming NATO in the sense of Europe’s members upping their committments in military contributions and being more prepared for operations committments as well.
What has been the importance of the U.S. in NATO in Europe is that we are neither France, Germany nor the U.K., which is very helpful in obtaining the consensus of all the smaller members of NATO. In short - NATO is not dominated by one of the historical European major powers. Combine that with the NATO structure where decisions are made by consensus, not “majority vote”, and you get how NATO has held together as a defense pact.

From a cousin in Småland, I hear the same view. It seems that, around Europe, one reason the political Left is in a dither is that "populists" are gaining in polls, with the EU Commission worrying that a "member state" might revert to being a nation, through such acknowledgment of immigration blunders. I lay this at the feet of the 'Obama' coterie in part for the destruction of Libya, which released a massive wave of migration across all of Europe. An echo of our southern border, is it not?

One thing to note:
When we saw 110 inner cities burn and being looted in America during the adorable “Summer of Love” ...
That was done mostly by American citizens organized by ANTIFA and BLM (while media was blowing on the embers...).
