Seoul, South Korea CNN —

South Korea’s parliament passed a bill Tuesday banning the breeding and slaughter of dogs for consumption, ending the traditional yet controversial practice of eating dog meat after years of nationwide debate.

The bill received rare bipartisan support across South Korea’s divided political landscape, highlighting how attitudes toward eating dog have transformed over the past few decades during the country’s rapid industrialization.

The law will ban the distribution and sale of food products made or processed with dog ingredients, according to the corresponding committee of the National Assembly.

Still remember being in college, and going into a Chinese restaurant, and ordering beef and broccoli. The "beef" tasted weird and was stringy.

It’s arguable that pigs are smarter than dogs, but I really enjoyed the BLT my wife just made for me.

I’d have a problem with eating dog myself, but I wouldn’t want to use the power of the government to prevent people from eating it if they want.

I wouldn’t eat it due to the way I was raised but I see absolutely nothing wrong with eating dog meat.

If you go to a Korean restaurant, and the waiter says he'll bring the menu, don't say "Okay!" since kae is dog in Korean.

Then it must have been dog meat; the cat tastes like chicken.
