Does halon put out the fire? Maybe boron or graphite?
Powdered magnesium is the only thing that will extinguish a lithium battery fire.
“Does halon put out the fire? Maybe boron or graphite?”
Nothing does as there is no way to smother their fires, since the fires have the fuel and oxygen needed right in the battery cells. The only goal with water is to cool down adjacent cells, so the fires don’t spread...but obviously it’s tough to get water to the cells that need it, when an inferno is raging.
Even worse with salt water, as it shorts out every cell that it reaches...so the cooling effect of water doesn’t help with those cases.
No, the burning batteries generate their own oxygen, and are thus self-sustaining.

We had Halon automatic extinguishers in our tanks. Nasty stuff when they go off in the crew compartments. Beats burning to death but can’t imagine the driving public would want to go through that more than once!
Happy New Year!
