Police arrested a man suspected of using a sledgehammer to kill a woman in her 60s at El Camino College in Torrance on Christmas Eve, authorities said.
The attack was reported just after 7 a.m. Sunday in the 16000 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Authorities said the victim was collecting recyclables at the campus when she was assaulted.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died the next day. She was described as an Asian woman between the ages of 60 and 65. Her name has not been released.
An investigation by the El Camino College Police Department and Sheriff's Homicide Bureau led to the arrest of Jeffery Davis near the campus, authorities said.
Police reviewed campus security footage and say they recognized Davis. They say they have had run-ins with him before and believe he is homeless.

I went to college there after the Navy around 71-73. It’s gone downhill like the rest of that crappy State.
I don't and neither do you.
I went to school there for awhile many, many years ago. It was a good school. I had an apartment on Redondo Beach Blvd., just across the street from campus. I have many fond memories of El Camino.

I bet she was digging for cans in what he considered his territory.
I have to remind myself it is a terrible thing when an innocent person is murdered regardless of the nature of the perp. I admit the murderer’s description and the mystery of motive are hard for me to ignore.

You were right.
UK Daily Mail said the woman was walking her dog and collecting recyclables. Her dog refused to leave her side while being attacked and stayed with when she was unconscious. The dog’s name is Cherry.
Wow, that sounds like an awful way to go.
