California implemented the “punish the success” tax strategy a while ago. As such CA is highly dependent on the rich for the income. when the rich suffer or move away, CA suffers, a lot more than any other state.

Perhaps that high speed rail boondoggle to burn money away that plans Up go up the coast should be rerouted to go from west to east for folks to flee the state. After all, that is where the future demand will be.

When you abuse people with the means to leave, they leave. I left San Diego for Pocatello in Dec 2000. Zero regrets. The decision looks better as it ages. My county has more Democrats than I would like due to a large railroad labor union and a state university in town. It's still orders of magnitude better than San Diego.
