Federal employees are being asked to rent electric cars when the cost is less or equal to gas-powered cars and where charging is accessible They've also been asked to take trains instead of planes if their journeys are less than 250 miles The White House said on Friday the federal government has acquired over 14,000 zero emission vehicles and installed 5,500 charging ports to date.
During Thursday's briefing White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asked if the most high-profile vehicle in the federal fleet - the so-called Beast, or presidential limo - might become electric in the near future.
President Joe Biden made another move Thursday to push his electric car agenda and live up to his nickname as 'Amtrak Joe' by pressing federal employees to rent electric vehicles and take more trains.
In a directive Thursday, federal employees were told to rent EVS on official travel when costs are less or equal to comparable gas-powered vehicles and where charging is accessible.
Additionally, federal workers were instructed to take rail for trips less than 250 miles when cost-effective and feasible rather than flying.
It also directs federal employees to avoid taking private vehicles for official travel.
Government employees should also opt for electric vehicle Lyft, Uber or taxi rides if available and increasing public transit use.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH, How about this, No taxpayer funds shall be spent on any fossil fuel for transportation.
When I was a federal employee you rented the least expensive vehicle available. The craptastic subcompact. Only groups of 4 or more got a waiver.
And the rules favoring air transportation in those days, at least were wacky.
My boss needed to be at a meeting about 150 miles away. Could have easily rented a car and driven in 2-3 hours. Instead they booked him on a 3 leg (each way) air journey requiring him to be at the local airport at 4 AM. For a noon meeting.
I’d have thrown a fit. Guess the airlines had a lot of push in those days.
Joe doesn’t have enough mind to decide electric.gas.. So his orders can’t be taken seriously
If it came from someone else.. Same
Since those people are redundant anyway, who cares.
I would say, they are getting punished for voting Biden.
Yes.
Plus no heating in winter, no cooling in summer.
Yes, when we got some business visit from some gov workers, they refused a ride and all four crammed into a small subcompact.
They gonna use private jets that are electric or solar?
Sailboats to go international by windpower?
Atlanta to Columbia South Carolina is less than 250 miles. And it is technically possible to go by train. Crescent from Atlanta to Greensboro NC, Greensboro to Raleigh, Raleigh to Columbia.
Leave Atlanta at 11:59 PM. Arrive Greensboro at 7:22 AM. Depart Greensboro at 8:24 AM, Arrive Raleigh at 10:05 AM. Depart Raleigh 9:10 PM, Arrive Columbia at 1:41 AM, and you are ready to work the next morning after a restful 25 plus hour journey. Because you certainly don’t want to rent an electric car to risk the trip.
Sounds familiar. I was a state worker in Olympia WA. The US Bonneville Power Administration was 110 miles away in Portland OR. Between the two the maximum driving time was 2 hrs, usually much less since going north from Portland was counter to commuting traffic. But downtown BPA employees going to a meeting in Olympia would drive east to PDX, fly north 155 miles to Sea-Tac, rent a car and drive 45 miles south to Olympia. Then reverse the trip in the afternoon.
We can only wish!;)
Perfect! Might end up shrinking the size of the government.
Memos from the WH are the first things to fill government staff waste baskets.
Nobody listens to Biden he crazy.
