Minimum wage to rise in 22 states next year - here are the hourly rates in each one....(map)

Twenty-two states are set to increase their minimum wages at the start of 2024.

Come January 1, nine states as well as DC will have minimum wages of at least $15, according to an analysis by DailyMail.com.

Washington State will introduce a minimum wage of $16.28 an hour, making it the nation's highest. Next is California which will have a minimum wage of $16.00 an hour.

There is no state minimum wage law in five Southern states: Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

In those states minimum wages therefore default to the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour - a level at which it has remained for the past 15 years. In May, Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a bill raising it by more than $10.

A handful of states have more complex minimum wages which are impacted by the size of the employer. For example, in New Jersey the minimum will be $15.13 for businesses with six or more employees but $13.73 for those with fewer.

Similarly, in Minnesota the minimum wage will be $10.85 if the employer has annual revenue of at least $500,000 but $8.85 if lower.

Enjoy your $30 Big Macs.

I’ve already quit buying any prepared food on the rare occasions I go to town. (although part of the reason is that mostly the quality has fallen as much as the prices have risen.)

Ditto. Unaffordable.

Please.. that’s an argument is complete BS.

Federal Minimum wage in 1971

1.60 an hour

2023 equivalent:

Right about $12

Federal minimum wage today:

7.25 an hour and hasn’t changed sim 2009.

Fix it, make it $12 and then annually adjust to inflation automatically just like social security and be done with this stupid political theater nonsense.

It’s not going away and it’s a stupid rhetorically idiotic thing that gets dragged out every so often.

Just adjust it, to proper value, adjust it annually for inflation and be done with this absolutely stupid nonsense.

No federal increase to the minimum wage in 15 year is criminal.

You think the Uniparty wants to do anything but keep everyone down, you have to look no further than this stupidity.

Keep the poor poor and the rest we’ll drive into poverty by inflation driven by fraud and theft.

Folks need to wake up, capital is not flowing through the economy and classes as it should, and that’s a bad bad thing. Don’t have to be a leftist to realize things are now working like they should.

LMAO. You think minimum wage works. You know it’s a scam to inflate union wages, right? You do know many of their contracts say they have to make X amount more than minimum wage. Or they use a higher minimum wage in negotiations.

Anyone with a brain knows if you raise wages prices are going to inflate too.

My comment isn’t directed to you but people need to read Dr. Sowell’s book about the true minimum wage is $0.00 per hour. If I’m a business owner and have $20 per hour to spend on two workers and Uncle Sam says its now $15 per hour, I fire the poorer worker, keep the better one and expect more from them to make up for the loss of the other.

The government is incentivizing businesses to automate.

I’m surprised by FL. Good campaign question for DeSantis.

Let’s hope the robots don’t get artificially “intelligent” enough to unionize.

You think it’s just a backdoor for unions you are just as nuts.

Rhetorical talking points

Like I said it’s garbage, nonsense and a stupid thing thr Uniparty drags out to distract.

Just adjust it, automatically adjust it annually abs be done with it.

But that’s never going to happen because as long as they can keep using it as a pointless wedge they can keep robbing everyone blind.

Keep your blinders on if you wish… playing the fool is what they need

The market rate for labor is unique to every geographic area and based on the economy of that area.

When I drive around, I see taco stands and burger joints offering $17.00 to $18.00 an hour and warehouse workers and light industrial offering $25.00 to $28.00 an hour.

No one is going to take a job paying $7.25 and for that matter, no one will take a job at $12.00 an hour.

If your business is not willing to pay that $20.00 an hour, your business will fail.

The market makes the right decisions and the value of labor is at minimum $17.00 to $20.00 an hour.

“No federal increase to the minimum wage in 15 year is criminal.”

No, it is not. There should be NO minimum wage.

There is no such thing as “minimum wage”. All the law does is outlaw any job not worth the price set, and it increases inflation by manipulating the markets to pay more than what a job is worth.

The other day I had a Doc Appointment that ran almost 2 hours long (not My fault) and I was extremely hungry so We hit the drive through window at Hardee’s. I haven’t been to a drive through in probably a year. We ordered: 1 hamburger, 1 cheeseburger, 1 small fries, 1 small soda and 1 chocolate shake. The Total was $14.48 !!!

The burgers were tiny, like 2.5” in diameter and.25” thick on a bun that was maybe 3” in diameter. Fries might have had 20 thin cut .25” x .25” x 3” and the drinks were maybe 8 oz.

When We got back to Our Town I got 1/2 pound of Sliced Brisket and it was $14.35 with pickles/onion and jalapeños on the side.

If I had known what the burgers and stuff were going to cost I would have gotten a candy bar, (then again a candy bar could cost $2.00) waited for the Brisket.

Don’t understand the posters here.

One week threads complaining about how people can’t afford anything anymore and young people are screwed because they can’t earn enough to survive.

The next week complaining that people shouldn’t expect a living wage because their hamburger will cost too much.

All while telling people to learn to code or get a better job, but you don’t need college or a higher education because it’s a waste of money and time.

What the hell?
