No, not really. Besides the ability of younger men being able to take the physical demands of fighting, the military WANTS younger people because they’re much more likely to follow orders as told. Older men are more likely to question them. Young, gullible and stupid (if that’s needed).
I can’t understand why he would need to draft men over 40. If the USA were attacked I would go to do my part, whatever that is. Just for the love of country. I was never in the military (I consider this to be one of the great failings in my life) but I would fight for my country.
I’m 65 and even though I can’t move all that well I could sit behind a machine gun or launch a drone or drive a truck or even be a cook. There are plenty of jobs that older men can do during war.
That is “if” they want to fight for their country. Maybe it isn’t all that important to the majority of Ukrainians whether they are absorbed back into the Soviet Union or not.
