Venezuela President Maduro Slams US for Floating Plan to Back Guyana in Essequibo Dispute

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Monday that he views US military support of neighboring Guyana as a threat to resolving his nation’s territorial claim there, and will bring it up in talks this week with his counterpart.

Maduro will meet Guyana President Irfaan Ali on Thursday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“I hope that in this high-level meeting we can address the main threats to the peace and stability of our countries, among them the involvement of the US Southern Command, which has begun operations in the disputed territory,” Maduro said in a letter published on X, formerly Twitter.

Last week, the US Embassy in Georgetown said the US military was to carry out joint training flights with Guyana as it faces rising tensions with Venezuela over a contested oil-rich region.

It described the December 7 flights as a “routine engagement.”

Maduro said any US military presence in Guyana is contrary “to our aspiration to maintain Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, free of conflicts, without foreign interference.”

Tensions have soared over the oil-rich Essequibo, historically controlled by Guyana, since Maduro’s government held a controversial referendum December 3 in which 95 percent of voters supported declaring Venezuela its rightful owner, official results showed.

The US-Guyana joint training flights might be a Biden Gang bluff, but weird events sometimes arise from international conflicts. China must be happy that we are now involved in Russia-Ukraine and Gaza. Venezuela-Guyana is possible, especially as the Biden gang ponders the 2024 election. Taiwan too. If US advisors are already there, and I think they are, Biden will say "Monroe Doctrine" although Monroe mentioned only European interference in this hemisphere.

If this were a mil-to-mil strategy...the US clobbers Venezuela in 48 hours.

If this were a terror campaign, with no uniformed participants for Venezuela...the US gets dragged into a war they can’t win.

Script-wise...I would imagine some former CIA/Pentagon folks are advising Venezuela and this turns into a 3-year conflict, with the US spending a billion dollars a month.

Aren’t half of the military aged men from Venezuela in the U.S. under Biden’s assylum policy? Seems like it would be ironic if we invaded. They’d probably want to come home once Maduro is out.

Maduro’s mismanagement has destroyed Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, so he wants to steal his neighbor’s.

There was a crisis over this area in 1895 when Guyana was a British colony. President Cleveland got involved because he considered it a situation involving the Monroe Doctrine. The outcome was arbitration and an agreement in 1899 establishing the current border. Venezuela wants to change that and annex more than half of Guyana (which is mostly sparsely inhabited jungle).

Maduro has been in the wacky weed again. Venezuela couldn’t beat Rhode Island in a war

Maduro has more to worry about with Brazil than the US. Brazil wants Maduro dead.

It’s a tricky argument. Would Biden claim that UK is trying to help Maduro steal Guyana’s land? Or that the Monroe Doctrine allows the US to defend any nation in this hemisphere from other nations that are also in this hemisphere?

Seems this is part of a plan to stretch the US military into a four-front war, spanning the globe:

Ukraine
Middle East
Taiwan/asia
South America

Maybe, but I am hoping voters are tired of Biden’s shenanigans.

Venezuelans are the ones who voted in their marxist government. They got exactly WTF they wanted, and now they're crying about having to forage for their food from dumpsters.

Too bad.

Not ironic dangerous. Unless you think all those fighting age males are only here to pick oranges.

Normally, these countries vote against the gringos due to the ever-present imminent invasion that never happens. Once the Marxists get in, they have North Korean elections.

Not so. Hugo Chavez seized power via a rigged election that was “supervised” by former President Jommy Carter. And once a commie seizes power, free elections end.

Yes.

We should never get Maduro in power. His mentor Chavez should be wacked a long time ago.
That way people of Venezuela would be rich and happy, we will have no refugees and a lot of oil.

We should get involved abroad sometimes!

So goes the claim, and it is quite likely true.

That’s when they should have risen up and taken out their government, regardless of whether or not they could possess firearms. They could get help if they asked, but they didn’t.

This is coming to America, right here, right now. When they cheat to win next year, no matter how blatantly obvious or not, what will happen next? Bow down to the commies (choose your own adjective), or fight for freedom?
