They basically don’t want to lead. Republicans in general are uncomfortable with the concept of leading because they don’t really have any core convictions or values that they are willing to fight for. If they had any, we would see a steady, concerted effort to advance the conservative agenda instead of constantly trying to reach across the isle to their “Democrat colleagues” who just exploit their weakness.
This very realization hit me hard when I watched Mitch McConnell seem wholly nonplussed about not winning back the senate. He seemed unconcerned before the election as well. He’d rather not have to take any real responsibility for the party at this point .
