WHO pushes for higher taxes on alcohol, sugary drinks

The World Health Organization (WHO) is pushing for higher taxes on alcohol and sugary drinks, arguing many countries are not using taxes to encourage healthier habits.

The WHO on Tuesday released data showing the global tax rates on products like alcohol and sweetened beverages and claimed such rates are “low.”

The U.N. health agency found 108 of its 194 member states are taxing some sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), though such excise taxes — which are applied for certain products — are only about 6.6 percent of the price of soda. At least 148 nations applied excise taxes to alcoholic beverages, but wine is exempt from such taxes in at least 22 countries, according to the WHO.

The UN is a mega cancerous tumor seeking to rule the world.

On the one hand the WHO pushes the ‘killer jab’ and on the other hand they want people to drink less sugary drinks because they are ‘unhealthy’. Is that ‘skitzo’, or what?

So fundamentally wrong on so many levels.

We have a congress. We have laws and a constitution. Foreign policy influence is illegal.

Being fat and drunk is matter of personal responsibility, not government interest.

That train leaves the station when you get socialized medicine. Then everything you do becomes everyone's business.

I don’t know that it is ANY country’s duty to raise prices on products they consider unhealthy. That should left to a consumer’s discretion. Anyone or country is free to state that such-&-such products may be unhealthy, but not free to tax said products to discourage the use of.

According to an article published by ICSID, The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, a business and design info center wrote in April 2022, the total cost to produce a can of Coke is about 26 cents which includes the cost of raw materials, packaging and shipping.

Prices are based upon 12 can packs but end up retail at around 61 cents a can. That makes the 6.6%, which is charged after markup at around 15 cents a can. If it was actually set up at the simple cost it would be around 2 cents per can. So the consumers are actrually being overtaxed by around 4% before markup. Let’s corral the sheep again.

The U.S. needs to tell WHO to go jump in a lake. Like all “international agencies” they have grown into “one world” meddlers in the sovereign affairs of independent nations.
