My heart is breaking also. I was one of those too, those who believed that the hideous evil of antisemitism died in 1945.

I have lived in Germany. I have been to Dachau. So horrifying was it that it drove me to the brink of insanity, me an enormously powerful man of towering intelligence and unshakeable stability, me of immense ego strength, me who have withstood enormous pain and adversity and prevailed steadfast, and yet me overwhelmed by the inability to comprehend such evil. The horror of the evil still overwhelms me.

And I was naive enough to think that everyone would react as I did.

Those who engage in the present recurrence of antisemitism are overwhelmed not by horror but by evil. They are blind, easily fooled, and stupid. Their decency and morality have descended into the depths of evil. No matter what morality they think drives them, they are fooled; it is nothing more than sheer evil. They are truly lost. They cannot understand where their stupidity has taken them and where this evil will lead them.

Evil is the ultimate stupidity, and those who have allowed themselves to be overwhelmed by antisemitism have descended to this ultimate of stupidity.

God help them! They are too stupid to help themselves!
