So far, I’ve found this on WaPo, but you asked for quality reporting.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/27/hamas-attack-israel-october-7-hostages/
.....
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had boasted for years of multimillion-dollar investments in an expansive “smart wall,” running the length of the enclave above ground and extending deep into the ground.
Claiming in recent years that Hamas had been successfully contained in Gaza, Netanyahu oversaw the gradual withdrawal of troops from the south. Forces left behind at the military and intelligence bases were trained to rely on sophisticated cameras and sensors to monitor for border infiltrations, and to alert forces on the ground in case of unusual events.
How Hamas’s carefully planned Israel attack devolved into a chaotic rampage
But in the early hours of Oct. 7, at least 1,500 Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants broke through some 30 points along the border barrier. They overran some bases so rapidly that soldiers were killed in their bunks, and the militants took out communication networks so efficiently that the area became a blind spot for the military.
“They coordinated it, in sync, to get the maximum impact,” Hulata said. “The fact we failed doesn’t mean the IDF isn’t prepared to respond,” he added.”
.....
this does not come as a surprise
somebody on the inside dropped the ball
Israel also has a deep state problem
Sounds like our gov’t “intelligence”. Everything is always “on their radar”, and that’s it.
Australia tried to warn US about Japanese plans to bomb Pearl Harbor...but those warnings were shoved aside
deep state does not care about cost in human lives
beware of the industrial military complex
deep state is loyal to no nation
deep state only answers to the devil himself
I agree. I am just dismayed that it took so long for folks to wake up to this reality. It is too late now, it has become a whirlpool too large to escape from.
Never happen here right?
Thanks.
“...the militants took out communication networks so efficiently that the area became a blind spot for the military. “They coordinated it, in sync, to get the maximum impact,”
Sure sounds like there was *someone* on the inside providing electronic technical details.
Sounds more like one of those “whistleblower” cover stories to deny their knowledge and stand-down, if not outright coordination.
Electric gizmos can be hacked or disabled. Two soldiers standing sentry and keeping each other awake, armed with guns and bullhorns, are more reliable, and should have been up and alert with a pot of coffee to keep them that way. Damned idiocy to trust in electronics over men.
I agree; electronics, while glitzy, don’t replace the human in many circumstances.
They can augment human input. But having all hands in bed in reliance on HAL 9000 was pure folly.
I’m eagerly waiting for the full story to cone out.
