Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) on Monday became the second senator to call for a cease-fire in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas militants.
“I am calling for a ceasefire — a cessation of hostilities by both sides,” Merkley posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “To endure, the ceasefire and the following negotiations must accomplish other essential objectives, including the release of all hostages and a massive influx of humanitarian aid.”
Merkley’s call comes after Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, became the first senator to back a stop in the fighting earlier this month in an interview on CNN.

Cease fire? Let the Israelis grind Hamas further into the dirt that they’ve dug themselves into. And no further US aid into any part of the region or US troops dying. Let all those miserable squabblers fight amongst themselves for the rest of their miserable lives.

A cease fire sounds like a good idea as soon as Hamas is eradicated completely.
If Hamas wants a cease fire, they can release all innocent civilian hostages, surrender unconditionally, and surrender all weapons to IDF including removing and destroying all rockets aimed at Israel.
But, he IS a Dem, and they do like to hear themselves talk...
No cease fire until every last member of Hamas and their combined families are dead.

Somebody needs to remind the dishonorable Senator that he is an idiot and cannot handle his own affairs, much less that of Israel. He would better serve if he wandered the streets of Portland to tell the bums how good he is doing for their interest.
Why not call for Hamas to disarm?

Democrats asking for a cease fire in this mess have to realize what it will mean to Hamas & other interested parties....a chance to refit for the next battle. Palestinians have shown no interest as yet in real peace.

A cease fire? Bull-shiite. As the IDF does it’s march ‘from the river to the sea’, every person encountered should be subject to the ‘if it looks like a hama$$ or sounds like a hama$$ or even smells like a hama$$’ do a double tap, stuff the mouth with a few strips of bacon, and then throw the carcass into a big fire.
The other day I saw a nice response to a critic of Israel: ‘if Israel were not concerned about innocents in Gaza, the war would have been over on Oct 9.’

It’s people like this that I have to smile and consider them moron. And there are some hisotrical truths to it.
This “war” is not a war. It is a series of criminal attacks on private citizens in Israel and they are hitting back in self defense. And if it was going to be called a war, it would be a civil war as Israel owns Gaza and has since 1967.
Organizations like hamas and hezbolah lie...all the time. So they can’t be trusted if you let them live. It was the choice of the people of Gaza to let hamas control everything in their lives since 2006. And now they are finding out it is everything to include their lives. And it has nothing to do with property, worth, prosperity, or anything other than a hatred for a race of people based upon religious beliefs. And after 2000 years of brainwashing, to include a couple of hundred years in the US, that it is now acceptable to kill for no reason as the people in Israel now were not around at the time of Christ.
Do these pro palestinian groups even understand the gore, brutality, threats, rapes, and pain and total disregard for people in Gaza and Israel. Probably not. And if they did, they’d learn fast to have an opinion, but discuss it like humans and not animals.
