Since the beginning of the war, Guterres voiced a clear anti-Israel line, and among other things he said that the terrorist attack by Hamas "did not take place in a vacuum", and he was accused of justifying the massacre. In addition, he also said that "Gaza is turning into a children's [sic] cemetery."
