“Heat pumps are ok in the southern latitudes.”
Newer cold-climate units work down to - 22 F. Fine for occasional dips. Extended ops at those Temps should have a geothermal exchange.
We have a newer cold climate mini split 2 of them in fact. We live in upstate NY where the cost per Kw is sky high. No they do not keep up when the temp is lower than 15 degrees F outside, edpecially if you want your electric bill to be lower than $500 a month.
DH is a licensed HVAC technician and a “go to” guy/troubleshooter extraordinaire for other HVAC companies/techs when they can’t figure out the issue. We have two woodstoves as well and they are our primary wonderful source of heat. Gov Joke-ul and Resident Dementia/Pedo can pound salt.
DH also refuses to get involved with the new “green” flammable refrigerants.
