President Biden invoked a Cold War-era law in a surprising move Friday to pour taxpayer funds into domestic manufacturing of electric heat pumps, an alternative to gas-powered residential furnaces.
In a joint announcement with the White House, the Department of Energy (DOE) said the federal government would award a "historic" $169 million for nine projects across 15 sites nationwide in an effort to accelerate electric heat pump manufacturing. The significant level of funding was made possible after Biden utilized the 1950 Defense Production Act (DPA) to increase domestic production of green energy technologies.
Under the actions announced Friday, the DOE will send millions of dollars to companies like Copeland, Honeywell International, Mitsubishi Electric and York International Corporation, all of which are billion-dollar multinational corporations. The projects will advance manufacturing of industrial, commercial and residential heat pump technology.

Experts raise alarm after Biden strikes agreement with China to shut down fossil fuels
Climate pact will nudge America 'closer to Beijing-style central planning, production quotas, and groupthink,' expert tells Fox News DigitalBy Thomas Catenacci, Fox News
November 17, 2023U.S. energy experts are warning of the economic and national security implications of President Biden's pact with China this week to move towards shutting down fossil fuel production in favor of green energy.
The State Department announced this week it had struck a deal with its Chinese counterparts pledging to "accelerate the substitution for coal, oil and gas generation" with green energy sources like wind and solar power. The nations, which account for nearly half of global greenhouse gas emissions, also agreed to "deepen policy exchanges" on reducing carbon emissions in various sectors, like power, industry, buildings and transportation, across their economies.
But the agreement — in which the nations further pledged to "sufficiently accelerate renewable energy deployment in their respective economies through 2030" — was criticized over its potential impact on U.S. consumers. Experts also noted that China has rarely followed through on international accords and stands to financially benefit from such an agreement since it controls much of the world's green energy supply chain.
They care. The astronomical cost of electricity and the lack of its availability from wind and solar is a feature not a bug. The Democrats want you broke, hungry, disarmed, and without the means to travel or defend yourself.
From what I remember of gas heat in my old house, you could definitely tell when the unit was running from the blasting hot air.
You could tell when it stopped because the hot air stopped blasting and then it felt cold because you weren’t getting blasted with 130F hot air anymore.
I don’t miss that.
I have a 600 sq. condo I purchased 3 years ago in Palm Desert, in the summer I have to run the AC all the time my first year my electric bill during the summer was 250.00 a month this past summer my electric bill was 475.00 a month I was STUNNED!! Thermostat set at 81* at all times and for 600sq. ft. Joe Biden SUCKS, I HATE HIM and his stinking climate BS!!
I thought when I saw the headline that it was from the Babylon Bee......
It’s not.
Will no one rid us of this (these) unconstitutionalist totalitarian(s)?
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. “Green energy” insanity will make energy far more expensive and far less available. Windmills don’t generate when the wind doesn’t blow hard enough or when the wind blows too hard and solar only works on cloudless days.
It’s all about white goods manufactured in China.
USSA does not have grid capacity for this load.
Commie Joe freezes the people then gives them electric heaters, which could cause fires and jack up their electricity bill. Joe and Xi Jinping must have swapped diapers.
Big companies are evil. Except for “approved” big companies, of course.
These hypocrites truly reek...
We often disagree, but, on this one, I’d say you are spot on.
I installed a Mitsubishi heat pump in my bedroom, mostly for the cooling 3 months a year, never use it for heat.
In certain climates they are great, but not everywhere all the time.
if I built a vacation cabin somewhere I would totally consider a heat pump, but like electric cars they are not a one size fit all solution and certainly should not be govt subsidized.
“Gas works without electricity,”
If you have a burner in each room.
The pumps that bring the NG to your house are electric.
I keep saying it over and over…and finally it’s becoming impossible to ignore: the form of government in the United States today is fascism.
(and it won’t be too long now before it becomes full-on Nazi)
Brazen vote and support getting. Will he get his usual 10%?
Your kids and the electronic printer.
America is done.
It is and they are the ONLY STATE legally able to do so. It is embedded within their State Constitution and the only State authorized to fly their flag at the same height as the US Flag
They want to kill you alll.
““The problem isn’t if the unit works, the problem is electric heat doesn’t stay warm. You have to experience it to understand. Gas heat just seems to stay warm longer.”
