President Biden invoked a Cold War-era law in a surprising move Friday to pour taxpayer funds into domestic manufacturing of electric heat pumps, an alternative to gas-powered residential furnaces.
In a joint announcement with the White House, the Department of Energy (DOE) said the federal government would award a "historic" $169 million for nine projects across 15 sites nationwide in an effort to accelerate electric heat pump manufacturing. The significant level of funding was made possible after Biden utilized the 1950 Defense Production Act (DPA) to increase domestic production of green energy technologies.
Under the actions announced Friday, the DOE will send millions of dollars to companies like Copeland, Honeywell International, Mitsubishi Electric and York International Corporation, all of which are billion-dollar multinational corporations. The projects will advance manufacturing of industrial, commercial and residential heat pump technology.

Actually, these electric heat puswork well pretty in houses under 2000 square feet and they seem to work in lower temperatures. We have an older model for a larger house and ours doesn’t work brown 40 degrees. We have a propane back up heater and a whole house generator.

Green in costing lots of Money-Greenbacks-using lots of electricity generated by coal and Natural Gas. And Nuclear. Oh, they shut those down; to safe and inexpensive.

Just to not use Nat Gas, which is the cheapest and cleanest way to heat houses, shave, and cook.
And we have enough LNG and oil to last hundreds of years.
Electricy is 3 degrees from fire.
The closer you get to fire to cook, heat, shave etc the better it is for the environment.
Ok, maybe shaving is better with a straight razor.
We have a newer cold climate mini split 2 of them in fact. We live in upstate NY where the cost per Kw is sky high. No they do not keep up when the temp is lower than 15 degrees F outside, edpecially if you want your electric bill to be lower than $500 a month.
DH is a licensed HVAC technician and a “go to” guy/troubleshooter extraordinaire for other HVAC companies/techs when they can’t figure out the issue. We have two woodstoves as well and they are our primary wonderful source of heat. Gov Joke-ul and Resident Dementia/Pedo can pound salt.
DH also refuses to get involved with the new “green” flammable refrigerants.

Providing your house is EXTREMELY insulated which poses another problem in northern climates due to the abundance of hunidity. Mold is the next big cash cow for ambulance chasing attorneys.

One of my BILs is a TOTAL ‘greenie.’ His home is incredibly energy efficient with in-floor radiant heat and some sort of furnace that runs on water for heating, etc. No solar, though - he lives in a heavily forested area. No wind power, either.
Of course, he PAYS FOR THIS HIMSELF and doesn’t force the rest of us into it, so there’s that. He might get some energy rebates from the state, but he’s putting in the time and effort so, so be it.
We got an energy rebate when we installed our metal roofing. By ourselves. Over the course of eight years. ;)
That is exactly what is happening. The worst part is that we know Biden is not thinking up these actions on his own, someone else is running this country, probably Obama. Then, when they dump Biden, they will blame him for all the unpopular, harmful executive orders that he made. Michelle had nothing to do with them.
