It is an outgrowth of the “don’t shame” crappola.

I have been saying this for years. We have had around 200 years of civilization with intermittent wars. Due primarily to affordable energy. This is abnormal in historic context. Our glorious leader of course wants us to pay more for energy. Lord have mercy on us.

We’ve been fighting wars wrong ever since 1945. I’m not sure why.

The primary reason was to avoid an escalation to a full blown nuclear war with the Soviet Union.

The problem is pulling punches became a habit and after WWII our elites have always thought they could negotiate an acceptable solution and thereby virtue signal our way out.

This was always a mistake and promoted maximal goals like installing Western democracy while reducing the means of doing so in terms of troop strength, restrictive ROEs, and generally a failure to kill enough of the enemy in the short period of time required for victory.

The inevitable result was of course failure, and now repeated failures have led large numbers of Americans to support a neo-isolationist stance. Not because Americans are inherently pacifist or buy the libertardian nincompoopery that "free trade" will prevent war, but because having repeatedly trusted their sons and husband's lives to an incompetent and vainglorious elite, they no longer have any trust in their own government.

"Accept That Savagery Is the True Nature of the World – and Deal With It"

That is absolutely correct.

Every one of us has the capacity to commit unspeakable savagery, and our best hope is (1) to acknowledge and recognize it, (2) to vow never to acquiesce to that capacity, and (3) to pray to God incessantly for the wisdom and strength to avoid such acquiescence.

Therein lies the hope of our own enlightenment and salvation.

Everything that he wrote in this article is the absolute truth about life on this planet. We did not get to be on top of the food chain because we were polite, we got there because we were the most savage animal out there, due to the fact that we were smarter than all of the rest. Our savage nature, combined with our intelligence, put us there. This is why I like to read Kurt Schlichter, because he writes the truth, complete with historical or present-day examples, and he also does so in an extremely entertaining and thought-provoking way.

I sincerely wish that he would run for senate wherever he lives, as he would undoubtedly be a huge improvement over whomever it is that represents his state.

I agree with the article but the characterization of Caesar’s campaign in Gaul is way off the mark. Caesar’s multi year war in Gaul was one of invasion and conquest to gain Caesar glory and political power in Rome. The Gauls were defending themselves from Caesar not the other way around.

It is in the middle of this period when Progressivism was formed and flourishes to this day.

One of the fundamental tenants of Progressive philosophy is that human nature is infinitely malleable, and therefore improvable. There is a strong belief in the goodness of humans, as well.

Progressives have ruled the United States from Hoover to Obama. Reagan was a progressive, but a national progressive kind of like Teddy Roosevelt was.

“Peace” is that brief and wonderful time in history when everyone is busy reloading.

People stink and I am pretty sure that, the instant humans moved out of the caves and began to socialize, they knew how it was going to be. The evil and the stronger one is ALWAYS going to take the most unfair advantage of the weakest and most vulnerable.

Count on that, protect yourself and be prepared. That goes for individuals and nations.

“As usual, Schlicter nails it.”

Riiight. Because the world would be a more perfect place if not for “middle-aged, divorced cat women” (major face palm accompanied by eyes rolling).

The world has been a “savage place” since Day One (remember that guy Cain?). That one half of the planet can’t or won’t accept the reality that the other half is either evil or dominated ‘by’ evil... and then refuses to act accordingly... is the problem.

Look at Israel, for instance. Their response to evil should have been immediate and final. Instead, here we are.... 23 days out and Gaza still exists and is thriving.

Nah. Blaming little old cat ladies is... well... just stupid. And the “rules”, or most of them, were made by men. That’s just how this world rolls. And yeah, Kurt has a grip on that reality....

except for the ‘blaming little old cat ladies’ part.

Believe me, after 9/11, I would have loved to see an Ohio-class SSBN stealthily enter the middle of the Mediterranean , where it would then empty its entire missile load in a depressed-trajectory shot on the ‘holy’ muslim cities of Mecca and Medina.

And, after the savagery of October 7th, I would’ve stood and cheered if the IDF cleared the Temple Mount of people and then the Israeli Air Force sent a massive bombing run to the Dome of the Rock mosque.

However, I am conflicted. I am a Christian. Not only that, I am a Messianic Christian, meaning that I also try to live and follow the Torah as well as the New Testament. Yeshua has said in His Word for His followers to be peacemakers and to turn the other cheek. In today’s world, that’s almost...and I hate to say it. ...stupid.

As a Messianic, I was livid what I found out what those Hamas-holes did to those innocent Israelis and others. I have a friend who has family living right now in Israel. (Thankfully, they are all safe , for the time being.)

As a Christian, what do you do? Being a believer in Jesus is not a suicide pact, as has been said before. We need to be able to defend ourselves against savagery that is all around us.

Too True. History is red with awful barbarism and horrors. We must realize that people—if given the chance, will do awful and terrible things to their so called enemies. See what Nazis did to Jews and Roma (really anyone they didn’t like). The human side of history is filled with terrible examples.

The West managed to build a civilization that was – for the first time in history since perhaps the Pax Romana – generally internally peaceful.

No.

The Americans being there, willing to whack anyone who got out of line and having the power to do it, made it peaceful.

When "The West" was on it's own they managed to start a bunch of wars. Now that the Americans have gotten weary of the job and are withdrawing they will start a bunch more.

Peace is dependent on having someone with a big stick who is willing to use it.
