Czech Group Acquires Federal, CCI, Remington Ammo, Speer, HEVI-Shot from Vista Outdoor

Big news for the shooting world — Vista Outdoor (NYSE:VSTO) is planning on selling its outdoor sporting products business to Czechoslovak Group A.S. (“CSG”) for $1.91 billion. This will involve transfer of some of the biggest names in the shooting/reloading world including: Federal, CCI, Remington Ammo, Speer, and Hevi-Shot. The sale and take-over is expected to be completed in 2024. We believe Alliant Powder will also be sold but that was not mentioned in the news release.

This represents a big change for the United States. Soon America’s largest commercial powder and ammunition manufacturer will be controlled by a European enterprise. CSG had previously acquired Fiocchi in 2022, and soon it will hold a very large segment of the total global ammunition market with the $1.91 billion deal to take over Vista Outdoor’s ammunition enterprises.

This is bad. Last thing we need is foreign control over ammo supply. Biden can legally shut off all trade of this product from a foreign country at will.

Unbelievable that we are allowing our largest ammunition manufacturer to become foreign owned. Does anyone not see a problem with this?

$1.91 billion. Not a large market these days.

See #2. Huge mistake. And probably indirectly paid for by US tax dollars.

My understanding is they are buying the brand names but manufacturing will still take place here in the USA.

For the Czechs, the value is owning the name, not the bullets or loading machines.

Sure does... They can shut it all off with a flip of a switch.

Does not matter. That is just the name of the company.

I am a bit surprised that this sale would be allowed.

“I am a bit surprised that this sale would be allowed.”

Can you think of any reason that DC would allow this sale?

You don’t know that. You are not part of the company and have no insider information ot offer.

“My understanding is they are buying the brand names but manufacturing will still take place here in the USA.”

Still, foreign “ownership” of products are at risk of being shut down for any number of excuses. Even if they are being manufactured here. It puts them in the legal classification where “in the interest of national security” can be invoked.

“Can you think of any reason that DC would allow this sale?”

Would they weasel their way in the backdoor and put themselves in control?

You bet...

I'm surprised too... Vista has run the Lake City ammo plant (for DOD contract ammo production) in the past, IIRC. I would think that this move would remove them from the list of bidders for future .gov contracts.

Plus, there's CZ's recent acquisition of Colt, which would seem to put a lot of DOD small arms and ammo production in CZ's hands.

FYI different CZ. This CSG is not the famed firearms manufacturer.

"Can you think of any reason that DC would allow this sale?"

A way to turn the millions of firearms in civilian hands into expensive clubs while law enforcement and military still have "theirs".

This is the same thing people said when InBev bought Anheuser-Busch.
