206 million out of 14,000+ million? That’s rounding. This sounds like a publicity stunt. Maybe the mayor wants to be governor of California after Gavin moves on.
When the smoke clears, I think this is merely the ‘bump’ for 2023. Once you get to summer of 2024, there’s bound to be another cut, and another for summer 2025. They just aren’t admitting the long-term strategy here.
The comical side of this, going back to 1980s SF...you had one of the dozen cities in the world that attracted international tourists. Everyone wanted to spend a week in SF. The city thrived on tourism and money poured in to the revenue pot, and had a fair number of locals employed. All of these incompetent city council members and mayors just goofed-off and saw no incentive to keep the ‘machine’ running.

That was my read also. 'Slashing' a 14.6 Billion dollar budget down to 14.4 Billion dollars, seems more like a rearrangement of the chairs on the deck of the Titanic, rather than taking the necessary actions. Painful as they might be.
