I worked with an Iranian Christian woman, whose family escaped after the Shah fell.
Someone asked her “Why do muslims hate Christians, Jews and other nonbelievers?”
“Because it’s in their book and that’s all they know.” she said.
I had Iranian counterparts I encountered in the Navy at my A-School training to work on the hardware we sent Iran, and I had Iranian friends when I was going to college. I uniformly found them a lot of fun to associate with.
They were what you would call secular muslims, and were very Westernized. But after the fall of the Shah, the attitudes in about a third of the ones I knew changed, and they became visually malignant to the USA.
Not friendly. You could see it in their faces.
What happened to Iran was a shame. A crying shame. They had a chance to break out of centuries of that cycle of hate and violence, and we stabbed the Shah in the back.
