SMER is a social democrat party, with a conservative social policy and Russophile foreign policy. As expected, it secured the support of SNS, a nationalist and Russophile party. SNS has worked with SMER in the past. In something of a surprise, SMER also gained the support of HLAS, which broke-away from SMER on social and foreign policy. I suspect that SMER and HLAS will work out their difference in foreign policy. I much prefer democracy to its alternative, but whether proportional representation or winner takes all, democracy can be messy.

I’d describe SMER as a social democrat party in terms of economic policy, a conservative party in terms of social policy and a Russophilic party.

If that floats your boat, great.

Me, I like the parties in opposition, center-right and Europhilic to various degrees. In particular, SAS, libertarian and soft Euroskeptic.

I am happy Slovakia doesn’t have any hard-line left or green parties. So, maybe they’re all good.

If I’m reading this coalition right, then “think Hungary”, so yes. This would be the first full shift from pro-Ukraine to anti-Ukraine in Europe.
