International relations professor and Chatham House Associate Fellow Yossi Mekelberg revealed to The Sun that the surprise Hamas attack of thousands of rockets the Iron Dome was supposed to repel marks a “major escalation” in Israeli-Palestinian relations. He said: “It’s unprecedented, because Hamas managed to enter towns, villages and the rest.
“The fact is Israel had a complete intelligence failure, operational failure, the fact that they’ve managed to enter the country so easily, that’s a big embarrassment and a big challenge from a security point of view.

American support for the highly praised billion dollar Iron Dome system is part of a larger package of US military aid to Israel, which according to an agreement between the two countries will total $38 billion in the years 2019 to 2028.
How did the US contribute to the Iron Dome? The United States partnered with Israel’s Iron Dome Department to develop the system. U.S. Defense Secretary visited Tel Aviv in 2020 and saw the Iron Dome when the U.S. purchased two of its own. The IMDO receives joint funding with the United States Missile Defense Agency to carry out joint initiatives.
