The 1864 US general elections were held during wartime (as were the 20th century elections held during WW one and two.

In the case of Ukraine, the Ukrainian constitution (which was in place well before Zelensky), elections are prohibited in Ukraine during a state of war.

The Law of Ukraine 389-VIII "On martial law" - passed on May 12, 2015 (note: 4 years BEFORE Zelensky was elected), directly forbids suspending powers of the President, Parliament, Cabinet, National Bank, judges and most enforcement staff (Article 10). They remain in power until martial law ends even if it is beyond their term. After that, there will be a transition period to prepare for the next elections. Zelensky’s mandate runs out in spring 2024.
Current state of war is declared up to August 18, 2023.

Note that it wasn't Zelenskyy cancelling the Ukraine elections but the constitution of Ukraine saying elections could not be held under a state of war

No, they want us to be excited about repudiating the act of condoning the military conquest and annexation of nations.

If that is acceptable then you can expect not only economic suffering but wars of conquest breaking out across the globe.

A dystopian world of Poverty and perpetual wars of conquest.

There go your liberties, freedoms and lifestyle. And don’t forget you have to also pay ‘your fair share’ of the 40T debt too).

Your Liberties and Freedoms are forfeit. They will be gone for the rest of your life!

There is only one superpower in the world today - and has been only one since 1991. The USA is the sole superpower capable of projecting force well beyond its shores.

Who has decided to fight a war against the superpower (the USA)?

Russia has a Nazi problem internally and IS a corrupt nation - more corrupt than Ukraine and while Ukraine has been steadily reducing its corruption, Russia under Putin has gone in the opposite direction

“Russia has a Nazi problem internally and IS a corrupt nation - more corrupt than Ukraine”

Yeah, yeah, yeah, deflect, deflect, deflect. I guess that’s all your team can do.

But, to answer your post, I OPPOSE sending financial and military aid to Russia, just as I oppose doing

The sanctions the US and aligned nations imposed have disrupted the economy alongside the wasteful spending related to COVID triggering inflation.

you really want a link to "There is only one superpower in the world today”????

What is a superpower? -- Britannica

superpower, a state that possesses military or economic might, or both, and general influence vastly superior to that of other states.

A superpower is a state that cannot be ignored on the world stage and without whose cooperation no world problem can be solved. During the Cold War, for instance, the United States could not intervene in world affairs without taking into account the position of the U.S.S.R., and vice versa. The fact that both of these states had superpower status, however, did not make them equal. Indeed the United States was more powerful than the U.S.S.R., according to most criteria (military, economic, etc.).

Why the United States Is the Only Superpower

Now why do you disagree with that?

And provide links for why you think you disagree

Deflecting is you claiming a Nazi problem for Ukraine when the only Nazis in Ukraine are on the Russian side

Pavel Gubarev is a Ukrainian pro-Russian activist who proclaimed himself the "People's Governor" of the Donetsk Region at the Regional Assembly on 3 March 2014, after separatists seized the building. Gubarev had earlier declared himself leader of the Donbas People's Militia.

Putin's fascists: The Russian state's long history of cultivating homegrown neo-Nazis

or better yet, here's an article from 2017,

Russian Nazi “volunteers” in Donbas

So then you should oppose helping Putin's Muscowy from creating a New World Order by wars of conquest

The sanctions were caused by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Putin will not have a hard job convincing Americans that Ukraine isn’t worth it. Wait till the American Body Bags come in (I bet there have been losses they have hidden) Contractor’s, mercenaries, spies, etc... Mr. Zs temper tantrums have helped Putin in this new project.

“A dystopian world of Poverty and perpetual wars of conquest.” Exactly like the world we already have, and have had for quite some time. Tell me exactly how continuing to fund Ukraine changes that. Be specific. While you’re at it, tell me what winning means for Ukraine. Be specific.

You can’t, because funding Ukraine isn’t about staving off a dystopia. We already have that. It’s about weakening the US and making sure the money laundering operation continues apace with ever more funding. There are neither high ideals nor winners here. It’s about keeping the grift going and nothing else.

Sadly, there are ignorant mutts here on FR who attack you, and call you a Putin troll or a member of Putin's fan club if you are against sending unaccounted-for billions to Ukraine in order to fight yet another proxy war with Russia

They call you worse than that.

You know “grift” or graft is pretty much endemic across the globe. It’s much, much worse in non-Western countries. It’s very naive to think it’s not.

Now to the bigger issue: war, destruction, killing civilians and seizing territory for profit. “Corruption et al” is miniscule and pales in comparison to wars of conquest, killing and privation which has been inflicted upon Ukraine and threatens to be unleashed on many more countries.

You think things are bad now? You have ABSOLUTELY no idea, and I mean, NO IDEA how bad life will be if war-for-conquest is condoned. I can tell you exactly what winning in Ukraine means: it means making Russia’s war of conquest, subjugation, and plunder of Ukraine so expensive and so impossible that no other country will attempt to invade, plunder and subjugate another country for a very long time.

Defending Ukraine/preventing Russia’s conquest is as important as defeating fascism and imperialism in the Second World War. In fact it is more important because to permit such aggression with current military weapons is a far greater threat to humanity. Such aggression, if left unchecked, will not take the lives of 100 million people, but billions of people. Do you understand now?

Yep, I DO NOT WANT to spend US money on wars that are nowhere near our borders, so NO ONE will talk me into sending money to Russia, regardless of how just their cause may be.
