--- "Entropy increases…"

This alone is a fine argument for localism over globalism.

As Elinor Ostrom showed, the solution to the "tragedy of the commons" seems to come down to sheer size. When the commons is the swimming pool in your HOA, the problem and arguments over its solution are ring fenced by the small population which must address the issue. Even such things can gin up hefty emotions and conflict.

True to form, "economists" and their allied idiots argue even over Ostrom's solution, because humans are so very human.

Such as "the world's policeman," "save the planet" and all are "commons" so large that there can be no real solution. The professional politician is mostly aware of this, and uses "a crisis" first as a guarantee of his continuing importance and gathering of his sinecure for his future. The little guy be damned.

Cut "commons" down to manageable sizes, and the globalists find themselves simply not very important, except in running their own scams.

How to solve the sand migration along a beach on a sea island? The UN has no idea. How to rebuild after a fire? Locals know. Locals do. And national and international politicians rush for their photo ops....

The tragedy of the commons is essentially solved. Entropy increases when the frame of a problem is too large. Entropy can be managed, as when I neaten up my desk and catch up on the filing. Or mow a lawn, which is in the offing today.

I won't and can't ask the globalists or even nationalists to mow for me. All they can do is "blah-blah-blah." Entropy at our house will be kept in check this day, a lovely, autumnal day. Best wishes.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Hopefully it’s nice outside for your mowing.
Take care.
