“ Suppose a Republican gets back in the White House and tries to force them to return to the office, won’t they just say “no”?”
*********************************************************

God, I hope so. Those who don’t come to the office and sign in to work there won’t get paid for the time they haven’t signed for. After a certain amount of time with an employee not showing up…TERMINATE THEIR “EMPLOYMENT”.

That’s bad news for them, good news for us.

TOTAL leftist NPR BS. As far back as I can remember these ooga-booga shutdown threats and the dire circumstances it could put government workers in has been thrown at the wall - whatever sticks and influences Republicans to throw in the towel.

In reality, there may be a ‘shutdown’ for a little while but NONE of them are made homeless, none of them starve or anything beyond an inconvenience. They get a vacation and when the budget is finally passed it always included back pay for federal employees, etc. What they get is a vacation and paid later for it.

They always get paid, and well.

Correct. She knows absolutely nothing substantive about anything.

I just read that workers classified as ‘non-essential’ don’t get paid. But no one can tell you exactly who is non-essential, and Google says there’s no database with that info. It is thought to be about 40% of FED workers, including those who report the economic stats to the FED.

The only federal workers impacted are the ones that actually do productive work for the citizens. So about 10-15%. The rest are leaches and thieves.

Margaret, who looks to be about 12 years old, apparently isn't aware of the federal workers getting paid EVERY SINGLE TIME there was a "government shutdown".

History began yesterday for her generation.

Most of America has no idea how many people, particularly government workers in the DC area, are making six figure incomes and living paycheck to paycheck. No savings, leveraged to the hilt, and totally incapable of living any other way, even for a month.

I'm way out now, but when I was in gov (in military), we had a few shutdowns. Sheer panic on the part of many of the government civilians. Junior enlisted military is actually better positioned and more capable of to handling no paychecks for a month than the senior civilians managing their facilities.

Cost of living is high but they're spending a lot of money on everyday expenses. Instead of Whole Foods, shop at Aldi's. You'll save up a lot of money that way.

Just about the entire greater Washington, DC metro areas survive by sucking on the taxpayer teat.

Without the billions of taxpayer dollars flowing into their economies Northern Virginia and the areas of Maryland adjacent to he Capitol would become ghost towns.

Government employees will get a short vacation at worst. The "essential" workers will still be required to come in and do something. All of them will get paid.

Some contractors will not get paid. They are out of luck. Maybe they can write to their congressmen.

A bunch of national parks, monuments, and museums will be closed to the public, just to make a point. "Don't mess with the bureaucracy" is the point. "Give us our money or else we will hurt you" is the point.

Just like the last several times we had this show running, the Republicans will make a lot of noise and then surrender after the backroom deals are made.

It is purely theatrics and means almost nothing.

Mrs. VanShuyten works for the Feds, and no previous shutdowns had any effect on us or our northern Virginia town. This is all propaganda to get the GOPe to cave and fund more wasteful projects.

Not much to be done. If I was in Congress, I would fund a continuing resolution every 30 days to keep the government running.

Almost all of those federal workers should be disemployed and their departments deconstructed for the good of the Republic

Crank up the food pantries and spaghetti fund-raiser dinners for the poor government employees. Maybe they can start GoFundMe pages and draw down the Big Guy 10% Strategic Reserve to get them through the rough spots.

Interesting you say that.

After WWII Detroit was the wealthiest place on earth.

Manufacturing might lead to great riches.

What in the world is actually MADE in the Washington DC area?

The only item I have which was made there is a C-More sight. Can’t think of anything else.

Government “shut downs” only hit about 10% of the government. So no, not really much impact at all.
