John Fetterman's Slovenliness and the Demise of Objective Social Standards | Opinion
Newsweek via MSN ^ | September 22, 2023 | Josh Hammer

Posted on 09/27/2023 3:51:18 AM PDT by DoodleBob

… Fetterman's appalling sense of dress, and Schumer's capitulation to it, can be seen as part of the Left's broader, sustained attacks on the norms of many venerable institutions. (We are, after all, reliably informed by many wokesters that the very structure of the Senate—two members per state, regardless of population—is a throwback to "white supremacy.") But the koshering of Fetterman's sartorial slovenliness bespeaks a trend both greater and more pernicious than the wokes' now-trite attacks on American traditions: the failure to recognize, and uphold, objective social standards.

Across all of American and Western society, the "participation trophy" mentality now reigns supreme. Objective standards are certainly not upheld in the world of modeling, where to speak of "objective beauty" is to out oneself as a hidebound chauvinist; so-called plus-size models, on the contrary, are now all the rage. Objective standards are certainly not upheld in the world of art, either, where much of modern art makes a mockery of the one-time craft of da Vinci and van Gogh. Nor are objective standards recognized in much of postwar architecture, which saw the rise of such hideous schools as brutalism at the expense of the neoclassical and Gothic styles.

The problem is that society cannot function without objective standards. Consider that the rule of law exists to codify which actions are morally acceptable, which are noble, and which are so unacceptable or ignoble that they must be punished. The rule of law, that is, exists to establish rules of conformity for people living in a mutually interdependent society—rules that are predicated upon a prevailing moral consensus. The new Senate dress rule, and the broader relativistic mentality it represents, amounts to social and cultural lawlessness—a form of anarchy wherein there are no standards of conformity, and anything goes.

There's something to be said for truth in advertising.

Congress needs to wear clothing like race car drivers, covered in logos of those who've paid them off.

The walls need to be painted with logos like the backdrop of a celebrity red carpet event.

Communists or Marxists are always operating in the realm of the mindgame.

Their goal, like that of satan, is to demoralize, depress, render ugly and chaotic, and confuse, lie, and promote absurdity in the destructive sense.

They mock and diminish anyone or any group that tries to be good, orderly, faithful, optimistic, brave, etc.

Demoralizing us is a very powerful mode of attack, and the communists have been doing it for a long time without even being detected in most cases.

The remedy: Pack the churches. Return to strong religious teaching to youth and the unchurched adults.

Trump and Biden are both criminals, but they ARE very well-dressed! Let’s re-run the 2020 election. What fun for the country.

The dress code standard for the U.S. Senate should be the same as the standard dress code for traitors.

This is where it started - with the obamas wearing shorts on their first Airfare One excursion.

There is NO occasion where someone should dress like this - especially when you are representing your country. Looks like a bunch of homeless people and you can BET this was intentional. Everything they did was to spit in America’s eye with contempt.

I am of that school. I am appalled at how people appear in public.

You cannot find a restaurant now that you would not have a good chance of seeing someone in a t-shirt in there.

Heck. The way costs have risen, who can afford to eat out anyway...

imo, this dress code deal is all about maintaining the “IMAGE” of fetterman in the hoodie & shorts.

<> where did fetterman go during his absence from the senate shortly after he was installed & congress’s session began?
<> was he hospitalized? where?
<> where are records of his health?
<> how long was he gone?
<> what was he treated for?
<> did his commie wife, gisele go with him?
<> where is she now?
<> how can an incoherent stumble bum like fetterman return from the hospitalization as a clean cut articulate functioning human being as he is presented to be today?
<> what was the miracle treatment that resulted in this transformation
<> who is this guy (guys) playing the role of fetterman in the US senate today?
<> is the hoodie and shorts policy intended to make this “new and improved” fetterman image easier to swallow???

pass the reynolds wrap

And there is \objective\ evidence that there are 2 Fettermans.
And the media plays along.
Media should be hoisted on the “fiduciary malfeasance” pitard.

👏 Crystal clearly PUT! Fact. Democracy can be mob rule.

Why else cover the earth with un-meritorious and unchecked mobs of foreign immigrants with no earthly interest in assimilating with American traditions, because we don’t require one thing of the invaders.

We were fortunate to have had three West Wing tours during Trump & only one of them was while he was in residence but at a wedding in DC that night. Each time I wore a jacket with tie & the military members taking the tours were in their dress uniforms. I remember reading about the Klintoons and those around him wearing jeans. Can’t take the man out of the trailer park.
