Donald Trump commits to Nevada caucus as state GOP approves rules rivals see as helping his campaign

RENO, Nev. -- Former President Donald Trump 's campaign committed to running in Nevada’s caucus as the state party approved rules that rival campaigns say tilt the state’s nominating process in his favor.

The provisions would bar any candidate from the Feb. 8 caucus if they participate in the state-run primary two days earlier. They would also restrict super PACs, like the one Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is relying on, from trying to bolster support for candidates in a caucus.

For months, the Nevada Republican Party has insisted on holding a caucus despite a state law passed in 2021 requiring state and county governments to offer a presidential primary if at least two candidates are on the ballot.

The dems passed the law in 2021 to allow for primaries and voting by mail in ballots, early voting and same day reg, id to registrar, but not to vote.

The caucus has paper ballots, same day voting and voter id.

team desantis is objecting to having a caucus, but I'm not sure why they claim the caucus helps Trump, except that perhaps they think they can do some ballot harvesting and stuff the mail in ballots by their door knocking?

What’s Pres. Trump afraid of? He’s way ahead in the polls but feels as though he has to fiddle with the election process to spike his rivals’ campaigns?

Why is the GOP stupidly jumping into the chaos of caucuses (which Democrats love) when Nevada finally allows a primary?

“What’s Pres. Trump afraid of?”

nothing ... trump’s not afraid of anything, anything at all, AND trump didn’t have a damn thing to do with passing the new nevada primary law or the nevada GOP refusing to honor said law, instead opting for their old caucus process ...

Trump had to pick one or the other, so he flipped a coin and made the nevada GOP happy that he would go along with their caucus and ignore the state primary ...

either way, primary or caucus, trump was going to blow away the opposition, just like in every other state in the U.S. ...

I wish the caucus would go away, regardless of the candidate. It is outdated, poorly attended, and they beg for delegates and participation that working people don’t have time for. Just give us a primary day vote, no early vote, no absentee vote.

Figures the desantis supporters/nevertrumpers would see nothing wrong with things that promote election fraud...

Since many of them are election fraud deniers anyway...

I live in N Nevada.

I PREFER the CAUCUS.

You MUST present ID & e checked off on their records.

You get to sit with others in your district & DISCUSS the candidates.

At the 2016 caucus in my area-—the doors were to open at 4 PM.

We arrived at 3:25 & the doors were already open at the school.

The line to get in was already 2 wide & out to the street-—OVER 100 feet.

When we left-—the line was 4 wide & out to the football field.

Well, I’m neither an election fraud denier nor a neverTrumper. I just dislike caucuses which are emotionally driven, voter limiting and, in this case, unnecessarily confusing for Republican voters who have to choose between the primary and the caucus. What insanity is this?!
