The chief of police in Columbus, Ohio, apologized to a father who posted a video showing two officers blaming his 11-year-old daughter for being groomed after he called to report it.

The police wonder why a growing number of people hate them.
Got a spicy one for the ping list.
They’re not making it easy to trust them.

The daughter WAS extremely dumb for being online and talking to strangers- but the father was equally dumb for allowing it.
I didn’t look at the video, but were they ‘blaming’ her? Or trying to give her the ‘don’t talk to strangers’ speech the father should have given her?
I give wide leeway to folks when they make poor decisions while under pressure (cops, emergency room physicians, etc.).
But by golly, cops seem to be the only people who routinely make poor decisions when not under pressure. They just don’t seem to understand (among other things) just how important their public image is.
The girl was obviously a victim, a very damaged victim. The cops threatened to arrest her for some sort of pornography crime.
I guess we should just be grateful the cops didn’t shoot any dogs while they were there.
Yes there are bad cops. In some places more than others. Its a tough job to do well. Of those willing to do it many have a power trip type motivation. Some have better motivations but the nature of the job is too tough for them to keep being professional. There is also the divided loyalties one has to struggle with when one sees a fellow officer go over the line. And there is never any shortage of people that condemn all cops. I would not want to do the job myself. Am not sure I have the temperament. So yeah...I’m thankful for those cops, be it many or few, who do their job well.
Fire those officers now.
It’s hard to explain why but much of this seems to be coming from woke female cops. By blaming the child, in a way she is defending the criminal.
sort of a George Gascon philosophy.
I know it’s a different country but see this woke Canadian she-cop let trans men beat up a peaceful protestor as she laughs.

When I was a kid, I stole some comic books and a squirt gun from the drug store.
My older sister told on me.
My mother took me up there and made me tell the pharmacist. He put on a very angry face and told me he’s going to have me thrown in jail. He said he was going to call the police. My mother “talked” him out of it and told him she’d pay. He let me go after a strong warning.
I’m sure they rehearsed the whole thing, but I thought I was really going to jail.
I never stole again.

Why? - for telling an 11 year old that the things that they are doing may get them in trouble - with the law or worse?
I am on the cops side on this one. Just because the groomer was an adult - and should be severely punished - doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read the riot act to the kid that let themselves be manipulated - its not like she was dragged into the back of a car against her will - she made bad decisions (many kids do) - and it is right of the cops to tell her that.

********
The video is not freely available from the link, so we cannot determine whether there is something in it that might support the cops.
11 year old kids are naive and little girls like attention. They’re kids which is why they need supervision. They don’t know what they’re doing.
Police are NOT law enforcement. Police are POL-icy enforcement. They don’t keep the populace lawful. They keep populace legal. They enforce bylaws, policies, statutes, orders, regulations.
Sheriffs OTOH, are constructional LEOs.
Bad cops who are fully protected by the thin blue line of "good" cops.
Fully protected.
Damn spell correction: ‘constitutional’
