While the churches argue that their actions are a step towards inclusivity, many conservatives see this as a blatant disregard for the sanctity of religious spaces and the teachings of the Bible

In August of 2009 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) estabalished a "Full Communion Partnership" with The United Church of Christ through the "Formula of Agreement
