New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof on Wednesday published an op-ed entitled: 'The One Privilege Liberals Ignore'
Kristof referenced a new book out next week by Melissa S. Kearney, an economist at the University of Maryland, entitled: 'The Two-Parent Privilege'
Kristof and Kearney argue that liberals have a 'blind spot' about two-parent families, and see supporting the institution as racist and divisive
American liberals need to accept that single-parent families are more likely to raise children in poverty, an influential New York Times columnist has argued.
Nick Kristof said the fact was taboo among progressives, who worried that they would be labelled racist for admitting it.
Black families are statistically more likely than white, Hispanic or Asian to be single-parent: less than half of black children were living with two married parents in 2020,

i made it work that my wife could stay home for the first 5 years of my son’s life... he is better off for it and their relationship is great. we lived sparingly and when he started school, she went back to work. parttime

We as a nation, are probably NOW supporting the 4th and 5th generation of these home grown losers.

The difference between then and now is the welfare state. The government incentivizes single motherhood, children are a cash cow to unwed mothers and the more you have the more money they bring in. Why would an 18 year old girl who can’t read the ink on her diploma want to take a $7.25/hr job at Burger King when she can sit home, watch TV, spit out kids and bring in $100k a year?
When Moynihan wrote his treatise on the demise of the black family, the fatherless percentage was in the 20’s. Now the number is in the 70’s, but the white percentage is in the 20’s. 20% of the white population is a lot bigger population and problem than 70% of the black population.
It’s not just the music whites have adopted: but it’s also a dysfunctional life style. Diversity’s influence by this measure is destructive.
They believe in Hillary’s “it takes a village” and not what has worked for thousands of years, a “two parent family”. Of course Hillary wants a messed up village she can control while the traditional family wants what’s best for everyone to continue the human race…..

well, I think it’s BOTH — a child needs a mother+father married and living together AND it needs a welcoming community where it lives and grows up and there are well-meaning neighbors, relatives etc.
