EAST LANSING, Mich. — All firearms have been banned on Michigan State University's campus and buildings, after the Board of Trustees voted Friday morning to close a loophole that allowed visitors to carry concealed firearms in public areas of campus.
Currently, a Board of Trustee ordinances bans all student, staff, and faculty from carrying firearms on campus or in university buildings, regardless of whether they have a concealed pistol license, or CPL.
An interpretation of the ordinance has allowed visitors to carry concealed firearms in public spaces on campus.
Law enforcement and the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety are exempt from the ban. The ban will not apply to anyone driving through campus with a firearm in their car, as long as the firearm is not taken from the car and is stored properly.
The decision to clarify the ban for visitors has been in the works since before the mass shooting on the university's campus Feb. 13. That tragedy, which police say was perpetrated by a Lansing resident and visitor to campus, killed three students and left five more severely injured.
Students Against Gun Violence has been advocating for a total gun ban for years.
Berkey Hall, where the shooting began, has remained closed and is expected to stay that way through the rest of the year. The MSU Union, another site for the shooting, has since reopened.
After the shooting, MSU students painted this message on "The Rock," a campus boulder where groups paint slogans and other messages:
Within 48 hours MSU subsequently hired a professional artist and covered the above message with the following:
Now, which action would better protect MSU students, the ordinance passed by the Board of Trustees today, or the first message on The Rock?
So the school vandalized the first amendment expression?
The gunman who killed 3 Michigan State students and wounded 5 may have planned to attack New Jersey schools, police say, as heroes helped classmates flee.
Anthony Dwayne McRae, 43 – who had no known ties to the university – opened fire Monday evening on two parts of campus, MSU police said. He was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

So how does having the MSU students, professors and staff unarmed help prevent a future 43 year old black man from coming to the MSU campus and killing people?
But, how do they know if a visitor is violating the ordinance?? I mean, "concealed" means that no one can see the gun, right?? Darn those pesky gun carriers!!

More constitutional rights, ending at the government’s doorstep.
Leftists always want to punish the people who didn’t do it.
It does not! IMHO it makes he campus much less safe. These are bad times.
And no doubt, some mentally deranged whacko just wrote down on their list another place where they can freely kill innocent people...
He was a 43 year old incel (involuntary celibate) whose manifesto was released, so we know how nutz he really was.
The sad part is that Liberals just don't understand that passing a law banning something doesn't magically keep them out of places they shouldn't be.
MSU Shooter Note:
Criminals take note, the MSU campus is a self defense free zone.
Gotta make those kids nice and defenseless I guess. Terrible. The left is stuck on stupid...permanently.
Never saw those. Creepy.
“So the school vandalized the first amendment expression?”
They obviously have decided the second amendment does not apply on their campus. Why should the first?
Michigan State University’s campus and buildings ,stay away there will be death
virtue signaling at its finest! “the government you now live under is the government the voting majority wanted” L.Star
They should just pass a law making it illegal to shoot people. That would fix the problem.
Big mistake.
