Trump is on track to sweep California’s delegates in presidential race, poll shows
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 6, 2023 | Seema Mehta

Former President Trump dominates his rivals so heavily that he’s on track to win all of California’s delegates for next year’s Republican convention — a haul that would give him a major chunk of the votes needed to secure his third presidential nomination.

The finding from a new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times highlights a turnabout from earlier this year. In February, Trump faced a serious challenge from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis among California Republicans.

The potential for Trump to win all of the state’s delegates also reflects his campaign’s work to change the rules of the contest to his advantage.

In late July, the California Republican Party changed its rules so that if a candidate wins more than 50% of the statewide vote in the state’s March 5 primary, he or she will claim all 169 GOP delegates — the most of any state in the nation. Previously, the rules allocated delegates by congressional district. A candidate needs just over 1,200 convention delegates to win the nomination.

Trump’s campaign pushed for the rule change, one of a series of such shifts it has backed in states across the nation. All of the changes supported by his campaign have the effect of helping a front-runner quickly nail down the Republican nomination.

The new poll shows about 55% of likely Republican voters plan to cast their primary ballots for Trump. DeSantis’ support has plummeted to 16% — less than half of what he had earlier this year.

“Californians have turned away, by and large, from DeSantis,” said Mark DiCamillo, director of the UC Berkeley institute’s poll. “The biggest beneficiary of DeSantis’ decline is the former president. There’s no question he’s well-liked by the Republican base.”

The Primary 🐀 Rats only hope is if Trump is jailed for life under phony charges. That’s the current state of the Republican Party.

I have often wondered how many liberals have to leave California before it becomes competitive?

If they jail him, I will crawl over broken glass to vote for him, even if that means a write in. My hatred of the GOP will be complete.

You're going to need a massive earthquake on the San Andreas Fault to take out a sizable portion of the coastal cities (San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego).

I lived in Silicon Valley for 41 years. It went left-wing bat-$hit crazy after the election of Clinton in 1992. I don’t needing voting records to know they’re almost as woke as San Francisco. Just less vocal about it.

What's not to like? He's the only president that's fought for us since Ronald Reagan.

Your date shows exactly what happened. After the cold war ended we had that post cold war boom and everyone tried to get jobs in tech or hollywood so you had this huge influx of outsiders moving into California in the 90’s

Never going to happen. It’s too late for CA due the fact they intentionally dumped many millions of foreign nationals and illegals into the state. For every patriot fleeing, they’re replaced by more foreign nationals and illegals. In fact, it not for foreign nationals the housing market in CA would go 100% belly up because the natives can’t afford to buy in there own home state. It’s been the same story for many years now. Sadly, it’s done.

Use a shard of that broken glass to open up a vein and sign it in blood.

While there are some Republicans with the mindset of Conlin Bowell*, the bottom line is that most Republicans in California know that ONLY Trump stands a chance of winning in November next year, and thus will support him in the Primary.

*...who famously complained that the Republican Party was a bit ‘rough around the edges’ or something like that.

Texas is the lost cause. It has more illegals now than all other states combined. At this point all the other 49 states should just shove all their illegals into Texas then just hand Texas off to Mexico to save the rest of the country.

Then that makes 2 states, TX and CA.

All thanks to uncontrolled endless chain immigration sabotage policies and wide open borders. None of this is by accident or happenstance, as those in D.C. never had any intention whatsoever of securing the border.
