If Mitch is not in Leadership for the good of everyone on all sides, that is not the same as if Mitch isn’t a senator at all and the seat is empty or filled by a Dem.

Just getting that in before the wrong context is used - as if not being Leader is the equivalent of not being there at all and nobody nor the wrong body replaces you.

Now, that said, his situation could become so bad that he couldn’t be there at all. And that would be unique.

Ever notice that so many polidsiots are so compromised that they cannot retire anymore?? They simply stay until they physically no longer can. They owe far too many favors to far too many dangerous people.

Better yet, where is Elaine Chao, where are the spouses and family of Biden, Feinstein, Fetterman and McConnell who need to respectfully remove the from public view and into retirement.

Kentucky law doesn’t require the governor to appoint a Republican as a replacement. Not that it makes much difference.

the odds are high that the Senate GOP will become as fractious and irresponsible as its counterparts in the House

Stopped reading here, apparently they like McConnell because he is an assistant Democrat and not a real Republican like the few left in the House.

“but he’s been the scoundrel who helped make Washington minimally functional.”

As long as minimally functional means not giving the democrats everything they demand in one bill, make them come back for more. If our government was minimally functional, ie: both sides take and give, we would not be this fractured.

Nikki Haley calls Senate ‘most privileged nursing home in the country,’ says McConnell freeze-up was ‘sad’!

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s freeze-up was the 2nd time the veteran GOP senator was unable to speak while holding a press conference.

MCCONNELL FREEZES UP AGAIN DURING KENTUCKY NEWS CONFERENCE

“I think that we do need mental competency tests for anyone over the age of 75, I wouldn’t care if they did them over the age of 50,” Haley told Fox News in the interview.

“House Republican conference in the firm grip of MAGA fanatics.”

The author is a pathetic moron.

It is interesting to note that Turtle came in right after the GOP collapsed.

“Kentucky law doesn’t require the governor to appoint a Republican as a replacement. Not that it makes much difference.”

Yes it does. They changed the law last year. The governor has to appoint from among those nominated by the party of the sitting or outgoing or dead Senator, that is, the party of the Senator that was chosen by the people in the last election.

“They owe far too many favors to far too many dangerous people.”

What is key is that those dangerous people do not just threaten the life or reputation of the specific politician—they threaten their families.

If you watch politicians’ body language carefully they will remind you of people that are the victims of kidnappers who are holding family members for ransom.

"And no matter who holds the balance of power, that’s not good for democracy and stable governance"

Maybe the author could clarify what they think defines those two words. Is it:

Omnibus bills binding an incoming House to astronomical spending, and hobbling the power of the purse to reign in an out of control Executive branch?
Squelching legimate concerns over election integrity?
Billions for Ukraine, nothing for the US taxpayer?
Sabotaging members of one's own party to make sure your toadies are in place (Murkowski)?
Limiting the choices of a president from your own party for appointments to your 'preferred' options?

Sure sounds like the author is of the mind of something Charlie Kirk said (paraphrased): "when you hear them say our democracy, replace that with our oligarchy". The Soviet Union had 'stable governance'. So did Nazi Germany. So does CCP China. So did Saddam Hussein's Iraq. There is a common thread in that 'stable governance', and it did not benefit the general populations of those countries.

Yes, it does. republicans submit 3 names and the gov has to pick one of those.

Face it. Unless decent ,rational, honest, patriotic people win elections, the country will continue its downward spiral. the globalists will win.

####################

The spouses are all in on it, gleefully riding the gravy train of corruption, power, and fame.

They don’t give a flying F about the health of their legal spouses, unless it interferes with the gravy train.

With Cornyn and Thune seemingly next in line, Rand Paul doesn’t have a chance. Yes, it’s scary because the RINOs in the Senate will select the R Senator that has Schumer’s blessing in order to protect the Uni-Party debate club.

It is already scary. We already know what's behind the masks.

Obviously, you are right, my question is a rhetorical question at best.

It’s hard to imagine, the Biden’s, Feinstein’s and McConnell’s not having enough money to live comfortably in the few years they have left.

I guess political power and privilege is so powerful people can’t give it up until they are either dead or defeated in an election.

Isn’t the governor of Kentucy required to appoint a member of the same party?

I suppose he could ignore it and slug it out in court.
