That’s because DeSantis represents the Swamp, and the NeverTrumpers are nostalgic for pre-2016 Republicanism.
The only reason Trump is charged with anything is because he is running again, and looks like he will win.
If he was just playing golf at Mar a Lago, or polling at 2%, none of this would be happening.
It is all political, and it is completely legit for him to raise money for his legal defence.
